Nestlé, Germany
In order to bring the different Nestlé food brands promptly and efficiently from the many production facilities to consumers all across Germany, SSI Schäfer was assigned the task of reorganizing the distribution of goods.
Initial situation: 19 plant warehouses, 33 off-premise warehouses, and 12 regional distribution centers with out-of-stock situations required frequent supply transports. A reserve inventory for some two weeks and a total inventory of 370,000 pallets necessitated a completely new logistics concept. Three distribution centers of partner forwarders are supplied from the different plants and deliver foodstuffs to hubs or directly to grocery stores. The high performance is achieved by double-deep storage in the HBW, the automatic material transport system in the order-picking area, and, last but not least, by the warehouse management system.
